At Bixby Knolls Towers we offer residential living, assisted living, and skilled nursing. We have answered some frequently asked questions for each of our levels of care on this page.

Residential Living

Office Hours

Our front office is open every day from 9 am to 9 pm.

What is residential living?

Senior living is a community designed for those over 55 that desire a worry-free lifestyle and social engagement.

What are the prices?

Is there any private space available to use?

You may reserve the activities lounge for any special event with notice. Contact the front office if you would like to reserve this space.

What appliances come with the apartment?

Each apartment has a full kitchen and is equipped with kitchen appliances.

Is the community pet-friendly?

Pets are permitted to visit, and we have specific areas for pets. If you would like a pet-friendly apartment, please contact the leasing office for options.

Do I get an assigned parking spot?

You may park on the street or in our parking lot. There is underground gated parking for our residents who still drive.

Do you have a beauty salon or barbershop?

At Bixby Knolls Towers we have a beauty and barbershop. We also offer manicures and pedicures. Inquiries regarding hours, services, pricing, and appointments can be made through the front desk.

Is there a telephone in each apartment?

Phones are not provided in Residential Living, however, each apartment home is equipped to accommodate a telephone. We can assist residents in establishing phone service with the phone company. Many residents choose to use their mobile phones as their primary line.

Is there access to cable television?

We offer complimentary access to basic cable TV for all residents in their apartment homes.

Are activities provided?

We believe events and activities enrich our resident’s lives. We create a fun, uplifting environment where our residents can be social, get involved, and enjoy their favorite hobbies and activities.

All residents are provided with a monthly calendar to keep them informed of upcoming activities. Copies of this calendar can be obtained at the front desk. Click here to view our online activities calendar.

Is smoking permitted?

For the safety and health of our residents and staff, Bixby Knolls Towers is a smoke-free community. We do, however, have designated smoking areas outdoors. Please inquire with the front desk for the location of designated, outdoor smoking areas.

Who do I talk to about questions regarding financials, billing, and/or application paperwork?

At Bixby Knolls Towers we have a full-time business office manager. Our business office manager will answer any questions you may have regarding financial or billing concerns. To make an appointment with our business office manager, please contact the front desk.

Assisted Living

What is assisted living?

Assisted living is housing for those 55+ that provides assistance with activities of daily living. We offer housekeeping, laundry, and various other services to help each resident attain their highest possible level of independence.

Do you offer housekeeping?

We provide weekly housekeeping and linen services. Our friendly and professional staff cleans each apartment once a week. If alternative measures must be taken, please contact our front office.

Can family or friends bring pets when visiting?

While our community does not allow pets to live in the assisted living apartments, pets are always welcome to visit. We ask that each pet have their current shots and be kept on a leash when in public areas.

Is there any private space available to use?

Assisted living apartments do not come with full kitchens. At Bixby Knolls we provide our residents with meals and snacks.

Is there a dining option?

We provide meals and snacks for our assisted living residents in a restaurant-style atmosphere. Our chef works to create flavorful and nutritious food, and we also accommodate special dietary needs for residents with a physician’s order.

Are activities provided?

We believe events and activities enrich our resident’s lives and have a powerful impact on the healing process. We create a fun, uplifting environment where our residents can be social, get involved, and enjoy their favorite hobbies and activities.

Skilled Nursing

Visiting Hours

Bixby Knolls Healthcare Center has open visiting hours, based on the well-being of our residents. We encourage visitors to come between 9 am and 9 pm.

Will Medicare cover my stay in the community?

If your Medicare card says “Hospital Insurance,” and you have had a qualifying hospital stay in the last 30 days, Medicare will generally pay 100% of your first 20 days in a skilled nursing community.

How often will the Rehabilitation staff work with my loved one?

When you arrive at Bixby Knolls Healthcare Center you will be assessed and assigned a customized treatment plan. Each plan varies based on the needs of the resident.

How often will a physician or health professional visit?

Generally, each resident sees a physician when they are admitted and every thirty days thereafter. However, our nursing staff is in constant communication with each of our physicians.

What articles of clothing should we bring?

We recommend bringing at least five changes of clothes and a pair of comfortable rubber-soled shoes. All items should be washed, clearly labeled with the resident’s name, and entered into the resident’s inventory log.

How is the laundry done? Can family members take laundry home?

If you would like us to do your laundry please notify the front office upon admission. Family members can, of course, take care of their loved one’s laundry. If your family member will be washing your laundry please provide a hamper with a lid and ensure it is picked up at least twice a week.

Each item of clothing is washed in an industrial machine at high temperatures. Please make sure the clothing that is brought is appropriate for washing and drying in these high temperatures. Each personal item must be labeled with the resident’s first and last name.

Is there someone who provides haircuts?

At Bixby Knolls Healthcare Center we have beauty and barbershop services as well as manicures and pedicures available. Hours, services, and appointments can be made through the front desk.

Can my loved one receive mail?

Mail is delivered to each resident daily, except on weekends and holidays.

You may also use our “Send a Greeting” feature where you can type out a note, and we will hand-deliver it to your loved one for free. Our “Send a Greeting” feature also offers the option of paying a small fee for a postcard that is mailed to your loved one.

Can children visit?

We encourage children to visit, but we ask that you notify the charge nurse if anyone under the age of 12 will be in the community.

Can we bring a family pet to the community?

Your family pet is invited to visit as long as they are kept on a leash, cleaned up after, and up to date on vaccinations.

Is there any private space available to use?

You may reserve the activities lounge for any special event with notice.

Can I take my loved one home for a visit?

Residents may take a “leave of absence” with a physician’s authorization. This authorization can be arranged through our nursing staff. When leaving and returning the resident, or responsible party, must sign the “Leave of Absence” book in the nursing station.

Can I bring in my loved one’s favorite food?

Always consult with the nursing staff before bringing food to residents. Many of our residents have physician-ordered specific diets with limitations. Any food kept in the resident’s room must be in properly sealed containers.

Who do I talk to about food preferences? Are there alternate options to each day’s menu?

After admission, our on-site registered dietitian interviews all of our residents and keeps these meetings in mind when designing our dietary program.

We follow physician orders to meet the needs of each resident while making sure the meals are enjoyable and full of flavor. We also administer oral supplements, as prescribed by physicians, and provide regular nutritional assessments by our registered dietitian.

Should you wish for an alternative food item in place of what is on the daily menu, we ask that you inform the CNA. This information will then be passed on to the Food Service Director, and every effort will be made to accommodate needs.

Will my loved one have telephone access?

Residents are more than welcome to bring their cell phones, and all of our rooms are equipped with a telephone hookup. Please inquire about service activation. There are also cordless telephones at each of the nurse’s stations that are available for resident use.

Will my loved one’s room have a television?

We recommend that you bring a television from home. Please check with the front desk on size restrictions and installation. We provide access to basic cable TV for all residents with a TV in their room.
